Our Junior Department provides excellent accommodation with purpose built classrooms for boys in Years Three and Four. The boys are taught in classes of around 20 pupils by their own class teacher. Each year group share a classroom assistant. Our Junior boys receive specialist teaching in Design & Technology, French, Music, Games and Physical Education. The new boys, who join us at seven years old, integrate easily with our own Pre-Prep boys in their new classes.
From Year 5 upwards, boys are taught by specialist subject teachers. In Years 5 and 6 the pupils are taught English, Maths and Science in three groups, which means there are smaller classes in the core subjects. In the Middle School, the boys have an enriched and stimulating curriculum, which exceeds the National Curriculum requirements.

In Year Seven, boys are divided into three smaller classes. Currently in Year Seven there is one class of our ablest boys, all of whom are potentially of scholarship standard. The other classes are parallel in ability. All three pursue an identical curriculum. At the end of Year Seven the boys in the parallel classes are re-divided into two classes depending on their choice of senior school. The overwhelming majority of our pupils are prepared for entry examinations to the local day independent schools, but some boys are prepared for Common Entrance for boarding schools.
