Drama

There are many opportunities for boys to be involved in dramatic productions in the Prep department at St John's.

Each year towards the end of the first term, a short play for Years 5-7 is put on as part of the  Arts Evening. This is an occasion when all the Arts combine in a musical, dramatic, poetic and artistic celebration. The evening generally consists of a first half of music and poetry. The interval is a chance for the audience to see an art display in the dining hall accompanied to music as they have a drink, whilst anticipating the second half one-act  play.

In the first and second terms the Junior boys in Years 3 and 4 meet for Drama Club and put on their play before Easter.

The main Senior school production is produced at the end of the school academic year. Alternating between a straight play and a musical this features the older boys in more challenging roles.

The pupils enjoy being a part of the whole production team as well as actors on stage. Boys help with lighting, backstage and props, and also feature in the pit band for our musical ventures.

The drama team expect and enjoy full commitment from all who take part, and this is reflected in the consistently high standard achieved at our past productions.

More details of our most recent production Bugsy Malone can be found in the News section of the website.
