Summer Fun Day 1998
SJA Family Fun Day

Every year the St. John's Association runs a busy calendar of events, partly to raise funds for the school but mainly to serve as social occasions. The Summer Fun Day on Sunday 28th June was the last of these events for this academic year and a big success.

Parachute games and a threatening sky

This photo puts me in mind of a 17th century allegorical painting: "... with their minds focussed on worldly pleasures, symbolised by the brightly coloured parachute, the revellers are seemingly unaware of the threatening sky in the background ..." That sort of thing. Unfortunately the threatening sky was anything but allegorical and quite early on in the afternoon we had two fairly heavy showers. However, the ground soon dried and the fun continued.

Face painting

With World Cup fever still running strong, Matthew Burman of 6S had a good turnover with his World Cup colours face painting stall.

Beat the goalie.

Continuing the soccer theme and right alongside the face painting, Beat the Goalie was another crowd puller.

A Virgin Atlantic limo bike.

We were privileged to have two Virgin limo bikes along as attractions. Normally they are there to take you from your office in the city out to your Virgin Atlantic flight in the shortest time possible; but here one of them is about to give James Dawson of 2R a trip around the carpark and back again.

Sponge 'n' Gunge.

From the civilised joys of motorbike travel we move to the savage delights of throwing sponges full of gunge at one's teachers. In this case it's Mrs Jeffrey on the receiving end and Ben Wilson of 5H doing the honours.

The Super Zoomer

For the younger brothers and sisters this Super Zoomer proved a lot of fun. In fact the entire day proved to be a lot of fun for a large number of St. John's people of all ages.
