On Monday the 3rd March year 7 were treated to a poetry reading and workshop with the poet Hubert Moore. Hubert has written six books of poetry, including 'Touching down in Utopia' and his latest work, 'The Hearing Room' published by Shoestring Press.
The aim of the visit was to develop the boys' understanding of poetry and the way it can work. It was also simply to see how much enjoyment can be had from poetry!
Having taught Mr Knight at Cranbrook School in Kent, teaching the boys at St. John's was always going to be a doddle! Here the boys were writing their own poems. They were focusing on the moment, seeing what could be described as 'arbitrary things' in a new and refreshing way.
The visit was very much enjoyed by year 7. We would like to thank Hubert for an excellent session that was pitched at exactly the right level for the boys.
