St. John's Ski Trip to Serre Chevalier, April 2000

With one pole buried in the snow and kicking up a cloud of snow in front of him, this cartoon skier above is clearly skiing deep powder; which is what we were lucky enough to do this year in Serre Chevalier.

View out over the mountains

Serre Chevalier is a series of four domaines linked together to provide, as you can see here, lots and lots of high altitude skiing. In the days before we arrived the area had had heavy falls of snow to provide the best skiing conditions of the season.

Snow, trees and a ski group.

While we were there it carried on snowing - but not enough to stop us skiing. This group have clearly been enjoying the very snowy conditions.

Picnicking in the snow.

Every morning our hotel would provide us with packed lunches that were quite tasty but a bit bulky if you have to cart them around with you. Here is one group having a lunch break in the snow.

Evening meal at the Hotel Paris.

Here we all are tucking into our evening meal. The food was good, but we still paid a couple of visits to a hypermarché to lay in extra provisions. With over 60 of us in the party we pretty well had the hotel, which was a two star down by the railway, to ourselves.

A panoramic shot of Briançon.

This is the view from out of the back of the hotel and shows the town of Briançon. The old town is on the left and still has very impressive walls. It is topped with a fort and you can see two other forts in the picture as well. Thank you very much Mr Haddock for taking these photos.
