This is the Indian Head Resort, our base for the entire week. Behind, on the ridgeline, you can see the rock formation known as Indian Head after which the resort is named. The story is that the Indian Head rock formation had been used in earlier times by an Indian chief as a lookout point, had been lost to view by the growth of forests and was only restored to view by a forest fire early this century. Mr Haddock took this shot looking back across what, in summer, is a boating lake. It might have been Easter, but the North Country of New Hampshire was still definitely in the grip of winter.
This is what it is all about; a chairlift up, glorious views, a lodge to ski back down to and plenty of snow. Notice how wide the pistes (or trails as they call them) are - excellent for beginners and intermediates like our good selves - and by the end of the week everybody was looking good.
Yes, a heated swimming pool is something of a luxury; but after a day's skiing this was a brilliant place to soak away the aches and pains. Plenty of use was made of this facility by the entire party. Alongside the pool was a jacuzzi and outside a hot tub - a bit chilly to get too but brilliant once you were in it.
After the aforementioned strenuous skiing another thing you stand in need of is food - and plenty of it. The meals here were good. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel everyday and both meals were served up buffet style which worked very well - everyone could have as much as they wanted of what they wanted. Quite frankly, even after two hours of skiing, nobody needed too much in the way of lunch - just a burger, some fries and a drink from the cafetarias on the slopes.
One of the nights the hotel turned on a Karaoke Evening. I'm afraid I couldn't take it for very long and staggered off to supervise a swim instead. But, very bravely, Mr Taylor hung around and got this photo. In fact he may have been slightly affected by the occasion because by the end he and Mr Walters were up there doing "Doo Wah Diddy".
Yes...
...exhausting!
But no-one
on it
would've
missed it.
