At St John’s Nursery, we provide a purposeful and stimulating start to school life for our youngest pupils. Our Nursery offers a structured and engaging curriculum within a warm, caring environment where boys feel secure, supported, and ready to learn.
The Nursery curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, ensuring that each child experiences a broad and balanced programme across the seven key areas of learning:
Boys benefit from a carefully planned combination of adult-led and child-initiated activities, with opportunities to learn individually, in small groups, and as a whole class. Teaching is responsive and personalised, allowing each boy to develop at his own pace, with clear progression throughout the year.
Early literacy and numeracy are gently introduced through stories, games, role-play and hands-on exploration, laying strong foundations for future academic success. The curriculum also includes specialist teaching in Physical Education and Music, enriching the boys’ experiences and supporting their physical and creative development.
A strong emphasis is placed on personal, social and emotional growth, which underpins all aspects of learning in the early years. Through daily routines, modelling, and activities such as Circle Time, boys are taught to listen, take turns, express themselves, and develop positive relationships. Values such as kindness, good manners and cooperation are reinforced throughout the day.
In the Nursery, our curriculum is not only about preparing boys academically but also helping them become enthusiastic, curious, and resilient learners from the very start.
