Daily Life at Nursery

At St John’s, our Nursery provides a joyful, caring, and secure environment where boys and girls can explore, investigate, and develop new skills at their own pace. With an emphasis on socialising, communication, and physical development, each child is nurtured as an individual by experienced, professional staff who tailor the curriculum to support his unique needs.

There is a harmonious atmosphere as children are kind to one another. The School successfully achieves its aim to prepare every pupil for each stage in their educational career, and to become a 'life-long learner’. ISI Inspection Report

A Nurturing Start

Children join The Lambs in the September following their third birthday, attending five full days each week. Housed within our Pre-Prep department, the Nursery is a self-contained space designed specifically for early learners.

Pupils benefit from access to outstanding facilities, including a dedicated forest area and treehouse for outdoor exploration, and a large covered soft-floor playground that supports safe, active learning through play. This nurturing environment prepares the children and encourages their confidence and readiness to progress through the school.

A Personalised Approach

Our Nursery programme is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, delivered through a balance of structured and flexible play-based activities. Teaching takes place individually, in small groups, and as a whole class. Pupils are gently introduced to pre-reading and number skills, and all pupils benefit from specialist teaching in P.E. and Music.

A strong emphasis is placed on the development of personal, social, and emotional skills. Through daily interactions, activities like Circle Time, and positive role modelling, kindness, good manners, and mutual respect is encouraged.

Parent Partnership

We believe in building strong relationships with families. Staff are available for informal conversations at drop-off and pick-up, and more formal discussions take place during parent consultation evenings. Written reports share your son’s progress and development.

Nursery is where a lifelong love of learning begins, rooted in curiosity, care, and confidence.
