Prep Extra Curricular

Learning at St John’s extends beyond the classroom door. Boys are encouraged to explore their interests, take on new challenges, and discover their talents.

From music, drama and sport to team building and adventure activities, our co-curricular programme offers something for every pupil.

Educational trips

Each year, boys at St John’s take part in carefully planned educational trips that enrich their learning, broaden their horizons, and bring the curriculum to life beyond the classroom.

Highlights include:

  • Educational visits to St Albans and Northumbria for Roman history study
  • Residential trips to a Normandy chateau and North Devon coast outdoor education centre
  • Bi-annual ski trips
  • Cultural trips to the Amalfi Coast in Italy to support the study of Classic Civilisation
  • Night under canvas and teamwork challenge days

Responsibility and Leadership

As they progress up the school, boys take on increasing levels of responsibility whether as School Council representatives, Eco Council members, or as positive role models for younger peers. These opportunities build confidence and help boys contribute meaningfully to school life.

In their final year, selected pupils may also be appointed a role within the Head Boy Team, a prestigious group of roles that recognise leadership, maturity, and a strong commitment to the school community.
