Nursery Outdoor Learning

At St John’s, outdoor learning is at the heart of our Nursery experience. Every day, our youngest children have the opportunity to explore and engage with nature across a range of exceptional outdoor facilities. From imaginative play in our purpose-built tree house to hands-on discovery in the forest and outdoor classroom, children are encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity, and a sense of adventure.

Outdoor learning supports all areas of early development, strengthening gross and fine motor skills, enhancing communication and language, and providing rich opportunities for creative expression. Working together in outdoor spaces also helps children build cooperation and empathy, while open-ended play encourages risk-taking, resilience, and problem-solving.

Spending time in nature helps children feel calm, content, and emotionally secure; important foundations for learning both now and in the future.

Whether building dens, making mud pies, or simply enjoying the changing seasons, these regular immersive experiences help children develop a connection to the world around them and a lifelong love of learning.

Pastoral Care

At St John’s, we are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every child feels respected, valued, and heard. Our aim is to ensure that every child lives and learns in a setting where they feel secure and supported.
