St John’s is delighted to announce that from September 2027 the school will welcome girls as well as boys, beginning in Early Years.
This marks an exciting new chapter in the school’s long and proud history. Girls joining St John’s will benefit from the same outstanding education, care and opportunities enjoyed by current pupils, within a warm, inclusive and values driven community.
St John’s will continue to offer everything for which it is known: excellent teaching, outstanding pastoral care, small class sizes, strong academics, sporting strength, outdoor learning, and rich opportunities in music, drama and the creative arts. The school’s ethos – values and commitment to nurturing confident, curious and resilient learners – remains unchanged.
Commenting on the announcement, Headmaster, Mr Tom Jenkin said:
“This is a positive development, and we are excited about the vibrant, inclusive community we are building for St John’s. By welcoming girls, we are extending the strengths of our school while remaining true to our values, our ethos and our commitment to every child’s success”.
St John’s is proud of its record in preparing pupils for a wide range of senior schools. It maintains well-established relationships with leading independent, grammar and state schools, alongside a bespoke pathway to Merchant Taylors’ School. These relationships, including collaborations with girls’ schools, will continue to support families find the right next step for their child.
The introduction of girls will be carefully phased, with ongoing investment in staff, facilities and resources to ensure a smooth transition and an exceptional experience for all pupils.
St John’s would be delighted to welcome your daughter into the Early Years from September 2027 and we encourage you to visit us at our next Open Morning or arrange a private tour to meet key staff members and pupils, and see our school during a working day.
